As the
Icons of Adventure dvd hits stores across the USA word has leaked of futher
plans from Sony for Hammer dvd releases this year. As we've mentioned before,
the Sony/Columbia catalogue of Hammer titles is amongst the most interesting and
diverse (not to say important) set of films previously unreleased from the
back-catalogue.
Unofficialhammerfilms.com took positive the arrival of
The Curse of
The Mummy's Tomb in the UK in 2007, and following on from the deal with
DD in the UK we expected Sony to release their films themselves in the US. The
collapse of the deal with DD leads us to the postulation that Sony will
eventually release the remainder of their Hammer catalogue themselves in the US
and possible the UK.
Further,
the unexpected surfacing of A Weekend With Lulu on TCM in the USA last
year suggested that some of the films previously thought lost are still in the
Sony archives.
Whilst
nothing has yet been published on Sony's press site regarding the releases, DVD
Drive-In are reporting that Sony will be releaseing Icons of Horror: Hammer
Films on October 14 this year. The set will include The Gorgon, The
Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll, Scream of Fear and The Curse of the
Mummy's Tomb. Anticipated special features include commentaries. The SSP
will be $24.96.
This still
leaves over a dozen Hammer/Columbia titles still to be released and we now
anticipate futher volumes to include the Hammer war films, a comedy set and
more.
We'll bring
you further information just as soon as we get it.
